A Mothers Day Story

My mum still treasures this china trinket box that my sister and I bought her for mother’s day, 1981. We’d seen it in the newsagent’s window and saved our pocket money for weeks. We kept returning to the window to gaze longingly at it, hoping that it wouldn’t have been sold before we had enough money!
After weeks without comics or sweets we’d saved up and were so excited to finally buy it. We were sure our mum would be delighted, and she was.
Thankfully, 27 years later there’s a much better choice of gifts for even the youngest buyer, but it shows how much the smallest gift can mean to someone. It reminds my mum just how naïve and innocent my sister and I were back then and reminds us how far we’ve come in matters of style!
You might need a little reminder as this year Mothers Day is very early, on Sunday the 2nd of March, but you don’t need reminding how special your mum is.
In today’s fast paced world families have never been more important. Mum’s are the glue that hold families together and Mothers Day is your chance to repay the debt for all those years of hand-holding, face-wiping, tear-drying and pep-talking.
Make sure you take time to let her know just how much you value her love and support, even if it is from the local newsagent. Although I’m sure she would much rather have something gorgeous from Narborough Hall!
